Last monday, March 28th, the associates of líderes had the study of the book written by Thomas Sowell, “Facts and Fallacies of Economics”. The event was led by Associate III, Vander Giuberti, and had as presenters the Associate II, Anna Luiza Guerzet, and the Trainees Associates Augusto Chieppe, Matheus Amorim and Renan Bortolini.

Vander brought in his briefing the definition of fallacy, as follows: “A fallacy is, by definition, a story, allegedly true and believable, created by people about a certain phenomenon or object, but which hides wrong reasoning.”.

In the book, the author also addresses other types of fallacy, but the central message is precisely to show that not all data or news, as valid as it may seem, is necessarily a truth or a fact. It is important to encourage people to always pay more attention to the information exposed and to seek other sources, to see whether or not it is in fact reality.

The group that presented the study showed through practical and current examples how much this happens in everyday life and most of the time it ends up going unnoticed, even questioning data brought by the book. At the end of the presentation, there was a dynamic debate with questions and considerations, making this a great event.
