Written by Nassim Nicholas Taleb, the work talks about the consequences brought by random and unexpected events

On the last Monday of the month, August 30th, the group formed by Bruno Rigamonti, Flávio Ventorim, Jessica Prata, Leonardo Dantas and Thiago Menezes presented the highlights of the book “A Lógica do Cisne Negro”, written by Nassim Nicholas Taleb.

Associate II and event leader Karen Meirelles conducted the study. She introduced at the beginning of the presentation: “Here is a clarification on the analogy that Taleb uses to explain his theory: in the past, it was believed that swans were all white. This lasted until a discovery in Australia, where the black bird was first found.

Thus, the expression Black Swan was used to refer to what we ignore because of lack of knowledge. The fact that the entire world believes that there were only white swans shows how fragile and limited learning is when it is done only through observation and experience."

The group also brought dynamics, such as quizzes and interviews, to effectively illustrate the content of the 464 pages present in the book. For example, the author uses two concepts to show the effect of the Black Swan when we draw conclusions based on the observation of means: the “mediochristian”, associated with average events, and the “extremistan”, with extreme facts.

Get to know these and other concepts in his work, which even being from 2008, demonstrates incredibly current speculations.
