This was the theme of the event after the Freedom and Democracy Forum in Vitória, and also the last Simulated Jury of the year

On Monday, November 8th, the associates participated in the last Simulated Jury of the year, with the theme “It must be absolutely free to set prices even in a situation of public calamity”.

The debate aimed to promote reflection on the limits of freedom, as well as on the legitimate criteria for setting prices in times of public calamity. On the one hand, free prices, and on the other, price caps.

The first was presented by associates Rodrigo Freitas, Samara Repossi and Victor Sezino; the second by Lívia Abreu, Nelson Duarte and Rodrigo Lorenzoni. Associate III and event leader Lippe Fardin Borgo highlighted in his briefing: “Price. We all fight for his reduction. We all fight for his raise. But after all, what is the price? What does it represent? At its essence, price determines the value of a good or service. Each individual, when buying (or not buying), when selling (or not selling), transmits his perception to the market of how much he believes that good or service is worth.”.

In an unprecedented moment in all events, the final vote resulted in a tie, and had the participation of the entire audience present. On the one hand, it is up to the entrepreneur to be totally free to set the price of the goods and services he sells. On the other hand, the State organizes and protects its population in special situations and against abuses in setting prices.

And you, which side would you be on?
